Buell-Sport-Firebolt-XB12R-Front-Right

There was a time when the sportbike world was defined by a very narrow, very uniform set of rules. Buell ignored all of it with the creation of the Firebolt® XB12R. It redefines what a frame should be, what a front brake should be and what a sporting engine should be. This is a motorcycle for riders who value the light weight and razor sharp agility of a sportbike, but crave the look, sound and feel of an air-cooled, 45-degree V-twin. Its torque-rich powerplant, intuitive handling and proven reliability make it a potent canyon carver. So much for convention.

Frame and Swingarm
Handling is key to everything we do. That’s why our massive frames and swingarms are made of aluminum. Lightweight and extremely rigid, they minimize torsional flex and optimize lateral flex for control in the corners. Incorporating the fuel tank into the frame and the oil reservoir into the swingarm also improves handling. By lowering the placement of the fluids, the center of gravity shifts downward, which explains why a Buell® flicks so effortlessly through corners.

Front Suspension
The fully adjustable 43 mm Showa® inverted fork features a high-performance damping cartridge that lets you adjust the setup for any situation, with 5.6-inches of travel to soak up every bump and pothole. Whether it’s at the track or the ride home, you can optimize the suspension for excellent feedback and razor-sharp handling

Rear Suspension
A top-shelf Showa® push shock with a fully adjustable damping cartridge allows you to fine-tune the compression, rebound and preload to maximize handling and feedback for any condition.

1203 cc Thunderstorm® Engine

Buell-Sport-Firebolt-XB12R-Engine

Buell-Sport-Firebolt-XB12R-Engine

The Thunderstorm® 1203 cc, 45-degree V-twin delivers the iconic look, thunderous sound and power-pulsing feel that only a V-twin engine can offer. Following the style of an American Muscle machine, you can tap into maximum torque in any gear, regardless of where the tach needle is pointing. In fact, you’ll find that over 85 percent of the motor’s torque is available at just 2500 rpm. Performance and dependability are enhanced with a large crank pin, a large-capacity oiling system and an electronic timing system and ECM that control a DDFI 3 fuel injection system. Combined, these features improve drivability and performance while reducing maintenance costs.

Underslung Exhaust

Buell-Sport-Firebolt-XB12R-Exhaust

Buell-Sport-Firebolt-XB12R-Exhaust

Exhaust cans are heavy and hot. It doesn’t make sense to hang them up high and off the back of the bike and close to the rider. Our underslung exhaust – a Buell staple since 1985 – concentrates the weight underneath the chassis to provide greater Mass Centralization. The result is a clean, uncluttered look, improved flickability and superior handling. It also features a large-volume muffler tuned to produce a linear horsepower and torque curve.

Buell® 1125 cc Helicon™ Engine

Buell-Sport-1125R-Engine

Buell-Sport-1125R-Engine

Development of the Helicon™ engine was driven solely by our desire to achieve the perfect power delivery, regardless of displacement. 1125 cc presented itself as the solution to achieving this. Working with BRP Powertrain GmbH & Co. KG, a premier manufacturer of high-performance engines, the result is a lightweight, fast-revving, big-bore, short-stroke engine with broad and seamless power, hitting 146 hp just before the 10,500 rpm redline. But what makes this engine so addictive is the torque curve. It’s virtually flat, topping out at a stunning 82 ft./lbs. And with only 8 ft./lbs. of variation along the entire powerband, you’ll find that you’re almost always in the right gear.

Helicon™ – Innovative Valve Train Design
Featuring dual overhead cams, a self-adjusting hydraulic chain drive and magnesium valve covers, the valve train design is both lightweight and very compact. Actuated by F-1 racing-inspired finger followers, the valves are quick to open for improved throttle response and power delivery. This technology reduces friction and permits a quicker valve opening due to reduced weight. Shim replacement is quick and easy due to the unique follower retention system.

Underslung Exhaust
The exhaust features a large-volume muffler mounted below the engine for Mass Centralization. The muffler is tuned to produce a linear horsepower and torque curve without the need for an active exhaust.

Hydraulic Vacuum Assist (HVA) Slipper-action Clutch
The smooth clutch lever effort and slipper-like action mechanism reduces engine braking during hard deceleration and enhances the overall rider experience.

FEATURES

Frame – Sculpted Aircraft Grade Aluminum Means Lighter, Stronger, and Faster

Zero-X-frame

Zero-X-frame

At the core of the Zero X lies the ultimate dirt bike frame that is engineered from the ground up and hand crafted using aircraft grade aluminum. The resulting combination of lower weight and higher strength means more responsiveness. In the turns and off the line this translates into greater acceleration. To make the frame even more durable each one is shot-peened and anodized.

In engineering it’s about the little things. Building off of the already successful 2008, this year’s improvements add significant strength and rigidity. This is your frame if you’re looking to jump higher and land harder.

  • Hydroformed top tub for increased strength & reduced weight
  • Massive swingarm for increased strength & torsional rigidity (better cornering and tracking)
  • Large cylindrical swingarm cross tube for increased stiffness & suspension response
  • Thru-axle rear hub for exponentially increased strength & rigidity
  • Entire frame is shot-peened and anodized for resistance to corrosion and abrasion
  • Organic frame gusseting for increased strength & smoother body lines

Motor and Energy– High Torque and Acceleration

Zero-X-battery

Zero-X-battery

Fueled by Zero Motorcycles’ proprietary lithium ion power pack, the Zero X delivers more torque than any other motorcycle in its class. This is made possible by the power pack’s ability efficiently dump an incredibly high amount of power as soon as you punch the throttle. Think of it this way, fuel systems are to gas motorcycles what electrical systems are to electrical motorcycles. Where others use a small carburetor and fuel pump, using a highly tuned fuel injection system. The Zero found a way of rapidly flowing more energy out of our power pack than any of its competitors. This means more acceleration and more fun.

Drivetrain – Larger Chain and Sprockets for Increased Durability & Longer Life

Zero-X-motor

Zero-X-motor

To accommodate the Zero X’s increased traction and ability to accelerate in the dirt the Zero use a hardened steel 420 chain and direct drive gearing. The result is a stronger and more durable drivetrain that puts the power from the throttle directly into the dirt.
